A major transformation of a traditional Birchgrove terrace, reworked across both levels to create a light, contemporary family home while retaining the character of the original building. Full project details below.
The renovation carefully opened up the existing plan to improve flow, natural light and the connection between spaces. At ground level, the home now unfolds from the original front rooms into a generous dining, kitchen and living area, where modern cabinetry, warm timber and exposed brick create a simple but richly textured interior.
Original elements, including the brick fireplace and arched detailing, were retained and celebrated rather than concealed, allowing the history of the terrace to sit comfortably alongside the new contemporary work.
Upstairs, new bedrooms, bathrooms and circulation spaces were designed to feel calm and bright, with skylights bringing daylight deep into the narrow terrace and warm timber detailing creating continuity throughout the home.
The result is a complete reimagining of the house — contemporary, functional and filled with natural light, yet still unmistakably connected to the character of the original Birchgrove terrace.
